DAL, de son vrai nom Licinio Da Costa Araujo (1968-2014), est un artiste peintre d'origine portugaise installé en France dès son plus jeune âge. Son œuvre est intimement nourrie par un parcours de vie marqué par l'exil, une enfance tourmentée et la nécessité de se reconstruire. À travers une peinture puissante, souvent sombre mais toujours empreinte d'une grande élégance formelle, il transforme ses blessures en création et fait de l'art un véritable espace d'exorcisme et de liberté. Inspiré notamment par sa rencontre avec l'artiste Pierre Chart, il développe un univers singulier où se mêlent mémoire, souffrance et résilience. DAL s'éteint en 2014, alors que sa première exposition personnelle est en cours, laissant une œuvre intense et profondément sincère.

DAL, whose real name was Licinio Da Costa Araujo (1968–2014), was a Portuguese-born painter who settled in France at an early age. His work was deeply rooted in a life journey marked by exile, a troubled childhood, and a constant need for self-reconstruction. Through a powerful body of work, often dark yet always imbued with a remarkable formal elegance, he transformed his personal wounds into artistic expression, making art a space for catharsis and freedom. Inspired in particular by his encounter with the artist Pierre Chart, he developed a singular visual language where memory, suffering, and resilience intertwine. DAL passed away in 2014 while his first solo exhibition was still on view, leaving behind an intense and profoundly sincere body of work.
